According to the Masrawi news site, Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad revealed that the legislation being prepared will ban the licensing of cars that have been in production for more than 10 years.
"With the help of cooperation programs with the World Bank, a project can be launched to replace them with modern cars with soft loans to their owners, after the success of the idea previously when applied to taxis, " she said.
Fouad stressed the importance of fruitful cooperation programs between the ministry and the World Bank in the issues of climate change and air pollution over the past two years, pointing out that the project of combating pollution and solid waste management aims to reduce air pollution in the Greater Cairo governorates through a number of measures From legislative amendment and modernization of institutional construction to executive procedures for the areas of electrical transport and solid waste management. ”
The minister said that the meeting with the Bank officials focused on improving the public transport system in Greater Cairo, benefiting from cooperation with the World Bank in this issue, and financing the replacement and renewal of public transport to operate natural gas or electricity to reduce emissions and air pollution.
